Magic Art
Photography started as a ‘Magic Art’. I believe the magic
starts with an internal human response to what the eyes see. The ‘magician’
uses light sensitive film to record what the eye and heart has responded
to. The magic continues when chemicals are applied to the film to produce
a negative image. Similar ‘Magic’ chemicals applied to a sensitized
piece of material make a positive image. The early experimenters of photography
used and tried all sorts of different combinations of chemicals and methods
to capture and record ‘Magic’ moments. The Photographer
The magic of photography took hold when I first saw a print develop in
a school camera club
I have now been in the photographic industry for many years so I have
seen many major technical developments in cameras, colour processing and
digital imaging. But I find the traditional way of making a photograph
with film and chemicals has a more emotive and romantic appeal to me.
Using even older alternative processes and a low tech pinhole camera just
adds to the ‘Magic’.
